Key Information
We need people who are up for marshalling in all weathers with a smile and loud voice!
You do not necessarily need an experience BUT if you are looking to marshal the route some stamina and fitness may be required to reach your location. (We will provide all the info you need!)
Requirements are to attend a pre-briefing / Q&A session and be available for the duration of the shift.
Check the weather forecast and bring appropriate clothing. If it is raining, we advise waterproof shoes or boots and a waterproof jacket.
Please also bring a refillable water bottle with you, filled.
*Please note, we cannot provide accommodation for these roles and can only accept people who can travel to the event on the day.
In return for volunteering...

What is the minimum age to volunteer?
All volunteers must be 16 on the date of the event to volunteer. If anyone under 16 wants to volunteer, they must be accompanied by an adult who has also signed up to volunteer.
Can I bring a friend?
Of course, as long as they sign up to volunteer too!
Where and when are the shifts?
We will need volunteers at various times of the day, at various locations according to the role.
Some roles at the start and finish will be easily accessible by public transport.
More information will be sent to you on completion of the form.
START TEAM LOCATIONS
- Manchester: Phillips Park
- Edinburgh: Saughton Park
- Bristol-Bath: Bristol & Bath Science Park
FINISH TEAM LOCATIONS
- Manchester: Phillips Park
- Edinburgh: Saughton Park
- Bristol-Bath: Bath Royal Crescent, by the bandstand
How do I choose my free event?
We will be in touch to ask you which event and distance you would like to enter, following completion of your shift at the event.
Do I need any specific skills / level of fitness?
The roles do not require any previous experience. We will provide you with all the information you need to fulfil your volunteer role on the day. All you need is a positive can-do attitude!
If a role requires a certain amount of stamina or distance to walk to the position, we will make that information available at point of role allocation so you do not get given an unsuitable task!
What expenses will you cover?
If you need to buy a train or bus ticket to get to or from the event, we will cover this.
If you need to purchase food or drink during your shift (such as a sandwich and soft drink) we will reimburse this within reason and up to a maximum of £15 per shift.
Please keep the receipts for these (or a photo of these) in order to be reimbursed.
Will I be able to access my role by public transport?
If you select Route Team or Aid Station Team you will need to be fairly flexible as we will allocate you a role where we need you most. Ideally you will be able to drive in case a location is not accessible by public transport.
Start and Finish roles will usually be accessible by public transport as that is the aim of Trail Escape!
