About Trail Escape: South Downs
STUNNING TRAILS
This event will offer a supported 25km run and hike, that will start at 9am from Landport Bottom nature reserve in Lewes.
Landport Bottom was the historic site of the Battle of Lewes in 1264! It features chalk grassland habitats home to rare wildflowers, and historic Bronze Age tumuli.
The 25km route will offer stunning views over the South Downs and out to sea, and will include some challenging but hugely rewarding climbs in this famous National Park.
LEWES START & FINISH
This is a rare opportunity to take part in a trail event that offers nearby convenience!
Lewes is surrounded by great places to stay so you can enjoy a fantastic weekend down on the South Coast, and is easily accessible by train, with options for parking available soon.
The route will finish back at Landport Bottom, which is a short walk away from pretty Lewes with its array of pubs, breweries, restaurants and cafes for the perfect post-run/hike celebration.
Head out on traffic-free routes to explore the vast expanse of rolling hills and woodland, and enjoy incredible views.
ROUTE INFORMATION
This looped route will pass through beautiful countryside and will be challenging in places with a considerable amount of climbing.
The views are definitely worth the effort!
RUN OR HIKE
Choose to run or hike / walk.
The route will suit all levels of runners and experienced walkers.
If you sign up to run, don’t worry if you need to walk some of the way - that’s encouraged so you can properly take in the beauty of where you are running! The terrain may be challenging in places, but we assure you that slowing down to take in everything that is Trail Escape is more than acceptable.
RACE PACK COLLECTION
YOU MUST COLLECT YOUR BIB NUMBER.
WE WILL NOT BE POSTING ANY RACE PACKS.
Collect on:
The afternoon before the event in 2027, 4pm - 7pm from the Info Tent where the event will start
OR
Event morning 2027 - Info Tent at the start - from 7am
Numbers will be allocated upon collection. Someone else can collect on your behalf but they will need your booking reference number.
Marshals, signage & spectators
FULLY SUPPORTED ROUTE
All of the events will be fully supported with way-finding and marshals just like a traditional road event.
There will be Aid Stations in place with fuel, food, hydration & toilets to help you along the way.
Friends and family can support participants at the start and see finishers cross the finish line and celebrate together!
TIMING, MEDALS & T SHIRTS
This will be a timed event but not necessarily a race.
Your goal is to enjoy running or walking on these incredible trails. Stopping to enjoy the views is strongly encouraged.
Forget the pressure of chasing PBs or worrying about split times. Trail Escape is about enjoying the environment we are taking you through on your way to getting that medal for finishing a Trail Escape.
All participants can pick up a finisher T shirt at the finish (optional).
